Thin-film modules are made from amorphous, i.e. non-crystalline, silicon, but cadmium telluride or CIGS are also used. Unlike crystalline solar modules, the individual solar cells are attached to a carrier material without visible conductor strips. Technological advantages include low manufacturing costs and flexibility. This means that thin-film modules can be glued to non-straight surfaces, for example. However, thin-film modules are used less for traditional house photovoltaics because the efficiency per area used is relatively low.
